LGBTQ+ History Project partners and allies across the Commonwealth of Virginia…
- Virginia Tech LGBTQ Oral History Project. Started in Fall 2014, Virginia Tech’s LGBTQ history project links archival collections from the University Libraries’ Special Collections with oral histories of LGBTQ alumni and former faculty and staff. This project is an ongoing collaboration between History Department students and faculty, Library staff, and Tech’s own LGBTQ alumni group, the Ex Lapide Society. Some really cool highlights are a “Timeline of LGBTQ History at Virginia Tech,” the Oral Histories Collection, and the huge amount of archival materials collected from LGBTQ student groups over the 1970s and 1980s.
- William and Mary Mattachine LGBTIQ Research Project. Founded in 2015, William and Mary’s LGBTIQ history project is doing very cool work out in the eastern part of Virginia. Follow them on Facebook!
- Virginia Department of Historic Resources (DHR) LGBTQ Heritage Initiative. DHR is really stepping up to support LGBTQ history research, interpretation, and historic preservation across the state. We are excited to partner with them.
